Bucinator vs Buccinator

01/07/2025

The term "buccinator" has long been used to refer to the muscle in the cheek. It is derived from the Latin word "buccina", meaning "trumpet" or "horn." Recently, TA2 (the second edition of Terminologia Anatomica) cited "bucinator" as the correct Latin form. However, 99.9% of anatomists and surgeons still use the term "buccinator.
